Dipping Toes « Thread Started on Apr 17, 2007, 10:08am »
As soon as Clea made it to the waters edge, she dropped her bad at the base of a nearby tree. She discarded her cloak and folded it up. Then, she slipped out of her black school shoes. She took down her knee socks and rolled them up. She placed them in her shoes next to the rest of her belongings near the tree at the water's edge. Only when all of her things were in order did she go down to the Black Lake.
She dipped in a toe and pulled it back out quickly. The water was cooler than she had expected. Slowly, she managed to submerge one entire foot, but she had to pull it back in a few seconds. Her skin had begun to turn pink from the cold, dark waters.
Clea alternated with putting her feet into the water. It was chilly, but it felt quite good for some reason. She continued to do this until she was able to stand up straigh in the water without cringing at the coldness. It was a great way for her to relieve stress, and she always enjoyed doing it.
Kathryn wandered outside Hogwarts and close to the lake. This was one of her favorite places to sit, but it appeared that someone had already beat her to the spot. She sighed and continued forward. She wasn't about to let someone push her away from her space. She knew it wasn't really her spot. Kathryn sat down to the left and behind the girl dipping her feet into the water.
"Hi! How're you?" she asked, attempting to make conversation. She wanted to get to know her students, even though this one wasn't aware of who she was yet.
*sorry my post is short...I've gotta go to class Talk to you later*
Clea turned around as she heard someone approaching. It was an older woman - clearly not a student at the school. Clea thought that maybe she was a professor at the castle, but was confused as to why she wouldn't have already seen her around. She smiled when the woman spoke to her, but was wary to dive right into a conversation with the stranger.
"I'm fine," she responded. "The water is nice. A little chilly, but nice all the same."
"I'm Clea," she introduced herself slowly. "I'm in Slytherin, my fifth year." She stepped out of the water and approached the bank. "I'm sorry," she said with a small laugh. "Who're you? You're not a student... right?"
"I'm fine," she responded. "The water is nice. A little chilly, but nice all the same."
Kathryn stood up and walked closer to the water. It sounded rather wonderful; she contemplated dipping her own toes, but decided against it, as she was supposed to be all dignified. She settled for a longing glance at the water before turning back to the student.
"I'm Clea," she introduced herself slowly. "I'm in Slytherin, my fifth year."
"Oh, sorry," Kathryn said blushing. "I'm Lady Kathryn DePaul, assistant Potions Mistress. I'm helping Professor Snape this year. I was in Slytherin, of course, when I was here at school." She had run into a Slytherin; how nice. She was a little worried that there weren't going to be anyone else. Kathryn knew it was silly; there had to be other students, but still...

Professor Snape chose that moment to go on a little stroll of his own; he was out to see if he could find his assistant...where had she gone? Blast that girl. "Not a girl," he muttered, reminding himself that she was indeed not a girl. She was 21 already. She had gone further and faster in the years since she graduated than he did. She was Potions Assistant; she had been Potions Mistress but had relinquished the title to him when he had returned from his short sabbatical.
Their relationship was an interesting one; she had an addiction to this potion that induced Euphoria. He had hoped to break her of it; this was one reason he kept her on as an assistant; perhaps then he'd have the influence he needed to help her. He heard voices near the lake and looked. He saw one of his students and Kathryn. He sighed. There she was. He wished she'd stop disappearing like that.
Striding over, he greeted Clea. "Miss Serphan, it's good to see you again." To Kathryn, he directed a scowl. "Where were you? I've been looking for you for over a half hour," he growled impatiently.
Clea nodded slightly. Professor Snape wasn't as scary as he seemed, she knew, so she didn't back away like most students would. She did, however, feel foolish standing there while he chastised his co-worker. Clea kept near the water, debating wether or not she should put her shoes back on and leave the two alone in privacy.
After a few moments she settled on staying. She had been there first after all, it wasn't her job to leave.
Although if it got much more awkward she would definately be out of there. She didnt' know what their relationship was, but Snape seemed to be a little.... protective of her.

Kathryn was enjoying her time out; she spent far too much time in the dungeons working on things; she thought Severus did too, but she didn't want to say anything. She looked out towards the school, and to her surprise, Severus was striding across the lawn towards them. He had his customary scowl on his face, and she smirked. If she could guess what he was upset about, she'd put her money on the fact that he couldn't find her when he wanted her.
"Where were you? I've been looking for you for over a half hour,"
She had surmised correctly; he was so overprotective sometimes. She knew that he was just looking out for her; she did have an addiction after all. He didn't want anything to happen to her; Severus was just so smothering sometimes.
To Severus, she said, "I was just talking to one of our students. I wasn't aware you needed me." Kathryn arched an eyebrow, waiting for a response.

Severus nodded at her reason, although it wasn't really an explanation. He would ask her about it later, in private. Now, it was time to get her back to their quarters. He was mentally smacking himself on the forehead for his reaction; he seemed way too protective, and he hoped Clea wouldn't notice anything; they had enough issues without having the students find out; for all they knew, she was just his assistant.
She actually did a good job with that, when she wasn't craving that potion. He resisted the urge to sit on the soft grass and gestured to Kathryn. "Kathryn, I think it's time we went back inside. I need your help with a projecct I've started." He knew that she normally couldn't pass up a a chance to work on a project, and he hoped this would be enough to lure her back inside. To Clea, realizing he had not been the most attentive Head of House, he said, "how was your summer? I trust it went well. What did you do?"

Clea's eyes widened as her Head of House asked about her summer. It wasn't that it had been very eventful at all... It was more that he was asking as if he cared. She stalled for a moment, trying to think of words that wouldn't bore her less than disinterested Professor.
"I went home, to Wiltshire," she said. "Stayed with my father all summer. He taught me a bit more in depth with Occlumancy and I practiced my Legilmancy as well."
She knew these words - if any - would spark her Professors attention and even slight respect. It was the sign of real power to be able to preform these tasks, and it was a raw power she had in abundance.
